Happy Earth Day 2021! Today is the 51st edition of Earth Day. Each year on April 22, Earth Day is celebrated to demonstrate support and raise awareness for the protection of our planet.
Every living creature on Earth has something in common, and that is that we all live on the same little rock. We all breathe the same air. But, unlike most other beings, humans can make decisions and pursue activities that have a noticeable and significant impact on this world that we all share. That’s why we have a responsibility to protect Nature, and treat it with gentle care. To be honest, for the last 51 years and longer, we unfortunately haven’t really been doing that.
Thankfully though, times are changing. And so can we. Lately, the issues and challenges we face regarding the preservation of the environment have been more and more included in the political agenda. More people came aware of the fact that we are exhausting the natural world, and that we need to do better, and quickly, so that we can live in harmony with the Earth again.
The theme for Earth Day 2021 is “Restore Our Earth”, and focuses particularly on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore ecosystems. Ìt’s up to everyone on this Earth to take part and help restore the Earth, our home.
What can we do? The good news is, every little gesture matters!
Here are some easy actions we can take, everyday, to reduce our environmental footprint:
Be mindful when using water: take shorter showers, flush the toilet less often, collect rainwater for non-drinking purposes, etc.
Another way we can take concrete action on Earth day 2021 (and any day) is by supporting a Local Charity with an ecological mission! Check these out, on our platform:
Tropical Research and Conservation Centre (TRACC)
TRACC is a marine conservation centre, dedicated to protecting marine life in an innovative way. TRACC is located on the east coast of Borneo on the Pom Pom Island and their main activities are aiming at the restoration of the coral reefs in the Celebes sea. This area is heavily damaged by fish bombing practices (a method used by local fishermen). TRACC is planting artificial coral reefs to attract more marine life and restore the marine ecosystems. Read more about their work on their Charity Profile.
Eco Barge Clean Seas
Eco Barge Clean Seas is a local organization dedicated to protecting marine life by removing ocean waste in the Whitsunday Region in Australia. The organization does not only organize beach clean-ups to remove the debris, but also educate local communities on the impact of littering and the importance of mindful waste disposal. Eco Barge Clean Seas also have a turtle rescue program to take care of the sick and injured sea turtles. Read more about their work on their Charity Profile.
And you, what is your daily “I love my planet” routine? Do you know any Local Charity working towards protecting and restoring the environment? Let us know!
Everybody has something to give. Let’s make everyday Earth day!
